You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup

You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup… But You Can Hide in the Pantry for 5 Minutes

Moms, let’s be real—we are the glue that holds everything together. But have you ever noticed that glue starts to dry out when it’s overused? (Just like our patience by bedtime.)

Whether you work, stay home, or juggle both, the pressure to “do it all” never really goes away. Laundry piles up, dinner needs cooking, emails need answering, and somehow, a kid will need a new spiral graph notebook for class by TOMORROW. (Tell me I’m not the only one who keeps Amazon in business!?)

But here’s the thing: You. Need. A. Break.

"Self-Care Isn’t Selfish, It’s Survival"

Taking time for yourself doesn’t mean you love your family any less—it means you’ll have more patience, energy, and sanity to keep loving them well. And no, self-care doesn’t have to mean a luxury spa day or a week-long vacation in the Maldives (although, wouldn’t that be nice?!).

Here are five simple, budget-friendly ways to take time for yourself—without guilt:

1️⃣ The Magical Power of a Hot Cup of Coffee ☕️

Yes, I said hot. Not microwaved six times. Not abandoned on the counter. Pour it, sit down, and actually drink it. Lock yourself in the bathroom if necessary. Put the baby down for their nap, let the laundry sit for a few minutes. It can wait, it’s already been waiting am I right? What’s 20 more minutes, at least its clean!

2️⃣ Take the Long Way Home 🚗

Drop-off duty? Grocery run? Turn up your favorite song (you know the one you can’t play with your kids in the car), take the scenic route, and enjoy five minutes of peace before stepping back into the chaos. Bonus points if you grab a drive-thru treat and eat it in silence.

3️⃣ Hide in the Pantry & Eat the Good Snacks 🍫

Sometimes, self-care is simply not sharing. It’s okay to sneak that chocolate bar without offering a bite. In fact, it’s encouraged.

4️⃣ Take Your Favorite Exercise Class 🏋️‍♀️

Not just for fitness, but for sanity. An hour of yoga, pilates, or kickboxing isn’t just movement—it’s an escape where no one is asking you for snacks. If you can’t then take a walk! Drive to a park and walk around if you’re tired of seeing your neighbors. ☺️

5️⃣ Say "No" Without Explaining 🚫

The most important one I think! You don’t have to sign up for every PTA event, class party, bake sale, cookie both, field trip and assistant coach opportunity. You don’t have to say yes to every favor. Protect your energy and say "No, thanks"—no justification needed.

You Deserve a Moment for Yourself. Period.

Remember, taking care of yourself isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. Your family needs you happy, not burned out. So today, find one small way to refill your cup (even if it’s just locking the bathroom door for five minutes).

With Love,

Brittany
