Motherhood: One Day, You’ll Miss This - Today, It’s Okay to Survive
Motherhood: One Day, You’ll Miss This—But Today, It’s Okay to Just Survive
I remember when my days were ruled by diaper changes, nap schedules, and sleep deprivation so intense it felt like I’d never feel rested again. The baby years were a beautiful blur of rocking little bodies to sleep, hunting for pacifiers in the dark, and learning to function on caffeine. When we brought the twins home from the hospital, it was a shock to say the least!
And now? The diapers and sleepless nights are long gone, but the busyness of motherhood hasn’t slowed down—if anything, it’s just changed shape. If you think diapers are busy, just wait for travel sports!
I’ve traded late-night feedings for late-night book reports, toddler tantrums for my 11 year old daughter’s preteen eye rolls, and baby gym classes for back-to-back sports practices. The carpool lines are long, the backpacks are heavy, and the calendar is somehow always overflowing.
Somewhere along the way, motherhood shifted from survival mode to sprint mode. The days are still long, but instead of rocking babies at 2 AM, I’m sitting in the bleachers at 8 am on a Saturday morning, cheering on my daughters soccer game.
And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
But let’s be honest—some days, it’s just a lot. Some days, I miss the simplicity of a world where my biggest decision was whether nap time should be in the crib or the stroller. Other days, I’m grateful for the extra sleep, the deeper conversations, and the incredible humans my kids are becoming.
While I may not need to cut up their food anymore, they still need me in a different way. Now the conversations are about a crush at school, teaching them how to make a meal and watching them try something new. It’s a beautiful and emotional mess this whole motherhood thing.
So to the moms in the thick of it—whether you’re buried in bottles and burp cloths or drowning in homework and sports schedules—just know this:
💛 It’s okay to feel exhausted.
💛 It’s okay to count down to bedtime.
💛 It’s okay to love this season and still feel overwhelmed by it.
Because one day, we’ll look back and miss these moments. But today? It’s okay to just survive them.
With love,
Brittany
